Farewell Tita Cory

Our Icon for the Country's Unique democracy was put to rest yesterday at the Manila Memorial Park. She was the 11th President of the Republic of the Philippines, serving from 1986 to 1992. She was the first female president of any country in Asia. Her presidency saw the restoration of democratic institutions in the Philippines, through the enactment of a new constitution which limited the powers of a president.

I would estimate that millions of Filipinos lined the streets from the Manila Cathedral all the way to the Manila Memorial. It took the convoy roughly 9 hours to travel 23 kilometers. It was definitely something else.

I guess its not just a few people in the Philippines who would want the incumbent president in there.
